Why Simply Having a Drug and Alcohol Policy Is Not Enough

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

It is common these days for a workplace to have a drug and alcohol policy. Often part of a broader suite of HR policies, a drug and alcohol policy is expressly designed to manage the risk of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

But simply having the policy is not enough.

For a drug and alcohol policy to be truly effective:

  1. It must be regularly reviewed – to ensure it is current and correct for your business.

  2. It must be regularly communicated – to remind employees of their responsibilities and your expectations.

  3. It must be followed – to avoid legal challenges, your drug and alcohol processes and practices must reflect what is detailed in your policy.

DASA can help you correctly and consistently implement your drug and alcohol policies and minimize risk via the following:

  • Policy review service

  • Training and awareness – face to face, online and eLearning

  • Education materials – videos, fact sheets and posters

  • Testing regime in line with your policy
